Koh Samed -

The island of the white beaches Sunthorn Phu (1786-1855) is probably one of the most respected poets among Thai people. In Phra Aphai Mani, a mermaid is saving Prince Aphai Mani from the sea and takes him to Kohh Keaw Pitsadan ( Koh Samed ). A statue that illustrates this drama is placed on the rocks between Ao Hin Khok and Hat Sai Kaew. Koh Samed is a national park of great natural beauty in the Rayong province, not so far from Pattaya and Bangkok. Koh Samed has fabulous beaches but a minimum of night life, bars and discotheques.

The island is located about seven kilometers from main land and the Samed beaches are among the best in Thailand. The most well-known beaches on Samed are Hat Sai Kaew, Ao Phai, Ao Vong Duan, Ao Wai and Ao Kui Na Nok on the East coast and Ao Prao on the West coast. Many of these beaches has sand that is so fine and white. Koh Samed is no larger commercial tourist attractions. Some of the whitest beaches in Thailand, together with a finite amount of roads and traffic, enjoy laying or relaxing on the beach.
